How to distinguish between good and bad desiccants?

Release time:2023-11-24 11:24:47 Popularity:

The selection of raw materials and the selection of suitable desiccants for moisture prevention of different products are important. There are many types of desiccants, including silicone desiccants, calcium chloride desiccants, mineral/montmorillonite desiccants, molecular sieve desiccants, etc. The moisture absorption rate of each desiccant is different, so choosing a desiccant that suits the characteristics of your product can achieve moisture-proof effect.

Here are a few points to note:

1. Appearance judgment: The high-quality bag type desiccant product has a neat appearance, clear and distinguishable printing, moderate sealing width, no material inclusion, and full raw materials. Poor quality desiccants often have rough workmanship, varying sealing widths, and some bags are particularly swollen due to their small size.

2. Packaging material judgment: A good desiccant packaging material has uniform thickness, no spots, smooth surface, high strength, unlike inferior uneven thickness. It is rare to see the raw materials, and some fibers may fall off when rubbed by hand.

3. Disassemble and check the raw materials: High quality desiccants are particles of uniform size, which can cause significant heat when touched directly by hand, while low-quality desiccants may not feel very obvious due to the presence of impurities and particles of varying sizes.

4. Moisture absorption test: If conditions permit, the original weight of the desiccant can be weighed, placed in a damp environment, naturally absorb moisture for 48 hours, and then weighed. A high-quality desiccant should be significantly increased, then dried at 105 degrees Celsius and weighed after three hours. If it is lower than the original weight, it indicates that the desiccant does not meet the industry's nominal weight and is a low-quality desiccant product.
